Student Senate discusses safe shuttle service

Winona State University Student Services will meet with the director of security to work on having a shuttle service run during weekends, according to Student Senator Jackson Ramsland.

The student senate met on Wednesday, Nov. 3 to discuss safety along with LGBTQ safe space training and club funding requests.

Ramsland said students would be able to call from any place in Winona and the shuttle would pick them up and take them home.

“This is an attempt to help students who may be walking home alone late at night on the weekends,” Ramsland said.

He also mentioned the city of Winona is looking to install cameras by the levy to improve the safety of the community.

The senators went over the weekly organiza-tional reports at the meeting, including UPAC, Residence Housing Association, Sports Club Council, Students United, WebMaster and ASO.

Residence Housing Association announced the will be attending a Regional Leadership Conference in Missouri on Friday.

The Inclusion and Diversity Office said they are working to install a gender neutral bathroom in the library.

With registration week approaching, the office will also look over the requirements for the classes that are part of general education goal seven.

Afterward, Student Senate President Nicole Zimmerman went over the club funding requests.

The senators allocated $1,450 to the mock trial club, a competitive team that participates in competitive trial competitions.

Next, the neuroscience researchers were allocated $ 2,044.88 for their high-end work in neuroscience research. As a result, the senate approved four students attending the neuroscience international conference in San Diego, Calif.

The senate allocated $10,000 for 12 students who requested the funding to attend the presidential inauguration in Washington, D.C. this January to expose Winona State students to the inaugural process and other political subjects.

The next student senate meeting will take place Wednesday, Nov. 9.
