Alyssa Griffith/Winonan

The Winona State University soccer team’s recent two-game road trip proved successful, with victories over Sioux Falls Oct. 12 and Southwest Minnesota State Oct. 13.

Winona State junior Alaina Kne scored twice, leading the team to a 3-1 win over Sioux Falls.

Kne scored twice in eight minutes to give the Warriors a strong lead early on. She first scored off of a pass from teammate Morgan LeFebvre in the 14th minute and followed with a second goal in the 22nd minute with an assist from Kati Baker.

Shauna Rodman gave Winona State its third and final goal four minutes into the second half.

Sioux Falls took three shots during the game, with one of them scoring to put the Cougars on the board.

Winona State’s offense recorded 15 shots with 10 on goal against the Cougars. On the defensive side, the Warriors have allowed four or fewer shots in the last three games, and the win against Sioux Falls marked their fifth consecutive win.

The Warriors defeated No. 21 ranked Southwest Minnesota State 1-0 Sunday off a goal from Caitlin Lilly with less than nine minutes of regular play remaining.

The goal was Lilly’s second of the season and came from a pass from Devon Richards to break the tie, giving the Mustangs their first loss of the season.

Winona State’s defense remained on point, holding Southwest to nine shots with four on goal.

Warrior goalkeeper Alexandra Vial posted her sixth shutout of the season. In Vial’s last five games, she has made four saves and allowed one goal.

The Warriors’ offensive leaders came from Richards and Rodman, who each had two shots. Nine of Winona State’s total 11 shots were on goal.

The weekend wins put the Warriors up to 7-2 in NSIC play and 8-2-2 overall. The Warriors are hosting five of their final six regular season games, beginning this weekend with Bemidji State University Oct. 18 at 5 p.m. and the University of Minnesota Crookston Oct. 20 at 12 p.m.
