The Winonan has served as Winona State University’s weekly student-run newspaper since 1919. New issues are available every week online and in print every other Wednesday in all academic buildings on campus. Company History:

The Winona first printed at Winona State Teachers College on October 28, 1919. Originally titled “The Pow-Wow,” the student-run newspaper would become known as “The Winonan” in fall of 1922. The Winonan has served as the student-run newspaper of Winona State University for more than 100 years.

Mission Statement:  

At The Winonan we pride ourselves on telling our Winona State, and the larger Winona Community’s, story. We set out with the intent of helping the community find their voice and serve the community through unbiased reporting. We seek the truth and report the truth to help others understand the community around them. The Winonan seeks out stories that will help expand perspectives and communicate students’ thoughts and opinions accurately.

Independence: The Winonan focuses on providing unbiased news from a variety of voices both on the Winona State Campus and from the local community. This publication is run by students at Winona Statue University, but the paper provides a voice for students and the community. 

Accuracy: The Winonan takes the time to ensure our reporting is unbiased and seeks multiple perspectives. We intend for The Winonan to be unbiased, accurate and detailed.  

Transparency: If facts are incorrectly reported, facts change as new information is provided, the Winonan staff will ensure that a date of last update and what was changed will be provided at the top of the article. This is to ensure our readers know that we at The Winonan care about being honest and accurate with our stories.
