Soccer concludes regular season with 12th straight win

The Winona State University women’s soccer team ended its regular season with wins against Minnesota State and Concordia-St. Paul and increased its win streak to 12 straight games.

The current win streak is the third longest in school history, with the Warriors having 9 shutouts in the past 11 games.

The final regular season home game was played on Sunday, Nov. 3 against the No. 4 ranked Minnesota State Mavericks. The Warriors posted a 1-0 victory.

Alaina Kne scored the lone goal, her fifth of the season, off a pass from Jennifer DeRoo in the 36th minute of play.

The Warriors totaled 12 shots on the day’s game, with seven on goal.

Kne led the team with the game-winning goal and produced two other shots for the team. Kati Baker also contributed three shots, with two on goal.

Rebecca McCoy added two shots to the team’s total.

Mehan Bolton, Morgan LeFebvre, Nicole Sames and Nikole Porter recorded one shot each.

Alexandra Vial made six saves and allowed zero goals.

The Mavericks recorded 14 shots total, with six on goal.

Tori Meinhardt, Emily Moris, Courtney Vallarelli and Emily Erickson each added two shots to the total for the Mavericks. Korey Kronforst, Dana Savino, Sydney Temple, Breanna Steele, Gretchen Dehn and Kiana Nickel contributed one shot each. Maverick goalkeeper Molly McGough had six saves, allowing one goal.

The Warriors traveled to St. Paul on Friday, Nov. 1, to battle Concordia-St. Paul.

Winona State proved victorious against the Golden Bears when Hadley Bales scored the only goal of the game in the 66th minute of play.

Sames and Kne assisted Bales’s third goal of the season.

The Warriors dominated, having 15 total shots with eight being on goal.

Bolton and Kne each recorded three shots, while Bales, Baker and DeRoo each had two.

Devon Richards, McCoy and Sames added one shot each to the team’s total.

The Golden Bears recorded only two shots on the night’s game.

Rachel Gratz and Liz Darkow contributed one shot each.

Vial made two saves, while Concordia-St. Paul’s goalkeeper made seven saves and allowed one goal.

The Warriors ended the regular season with a 14-2-2 record and 13-2 record in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play.

With the weekend’s victories, the Warriors moved into second place in the NSIC standings, while Minnesota State claimed the top conference spot with a 13-1-1 record in conference play.

Winona State had 11 shutouts during the season, with the first two at the beginning of the season against Central Missouri and Truman State.

The rest of the games were against conference opponents. The Warriors shut out University of Mary, Minnesota State University-Moorhead, Northern State, Southwest Minnesota State, Bemidji State, Minnesota Crookston, Wayne State and their final two opponents, Concordia-St. Paul and Minnesota State.

The team has had 12 different players score 32 total goals of the season. Kne led the team with five goals and Baker was right behind her with four. Bales, McCoy, Sames and Bolton each had three goals during the regular season.

Winona State is seeded second in the NSIC/US Bank Soccer Tournament and will host Augustana, the seventh ranked seed, for its first postseason game at 4 p.m. at the Verizon Wireless Stadium.

The Warriors played the Vikings earlier in the year, when they beat Augustana 3-1.
