Track and field competes at MSU Multi and Open

The Winona State University women’s track and field team spent the weekend competing in the Minnesota State Multi and Open in Mankato, Minn. The two-day event included six teams from the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference.

The sole Warrior win came in the women’s distance medley. Katie Bagley, Natalie Jech, Jordan Skelly and Catherine Whitcomb combined for a time of 12:28.25, winning the event by a margin of 18.96 seconds. Whitcomb also went on to place sixth in the 200-meter dash.

Madeline Tompach led all Warriors in the 400-meter dash by posting a time of 1:00.52 to earn 9th.
Megan Seidl was the next Warrior to cross the finish line with a time of 1:01.89, earning 17th place, and Ali Skluzacek’s time of 1:02.43 earned a 21st place finish.

Jech was also able to crack the top 10 with a 6th place finish in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:26.69. Tiffany Sunderland was the next Warrior to cross with a 14th place finish and a time of 2:33.79, and Emma Heuer posted a time of 2:35.44 to finish 17th.

Lauren Rusch and Kate Simonet were the sole Warriors to compete in their respective events. Rusch took 6th in the 1000-meter with a time of 3:12.07. Simonet posted a time of 11:40.71 to finish 12th in the 3000-meter.

Jordan Skelly posted the highest individual finish for the Warriors, earning fifth in the mile run with a time of 5:10.35. Chelsea Schrubbe and Heuer took 13th and 14th place. Schrubbe crossed the finish line in 5:25.78, and Heuer followed with a time of 5:28.72. Madeline Martell was the final Warrior to cross the finish line with a time of 5:39.98.

Two freshmen led the way for the Warriors in the high jump. Reagan Johnson and Alyssa Weiler cracked the top ten taking ninth and tenth place respectively as both jumpers totaled a distance of 1.57 meters. Haley Reinke was the other Warrior to compete in the high jump; she totaled a distance of 1.53 meters to finish 18th.

The Warriors continued to place in the top-ten during the field events. Hannah Mueller and Deschaine cracked the top-ten in the long jump. Mueller finished sixth with a distance of 5.48 meters, and Deschaine totaled 5.32 meters to finish eighth.

Deschaine joined Annie Weinrich with a top-ten finish in the triple jump. Deschaine totaled a distance of 11.04 meters to finish sixth, and Weinrich finished tenth by posting a distance of 10.58 meters.

Warrior jumper Brittany Dulak said, “We went up against a lot of competition and some very good completion. It gave us a good idea about the kind of competition we will be seeing at our conference meet in a couple of weeks.”

The Warriors will be back in action Feb. 8 as they travel to Stevens Point, Wis. to compete in the Pointer Open.

The team will then travel to Mankato for the Minnesota State Invite Feb. 15 and the NSIC Multi-Event Championship Feb. 17.
