The Winona State University track and field team saw three winners carry them to a third place finish in the Pointer Invitational Saturday in Stevens Point, Wis.

Catherine Whitcomb won the 400-meter with a time of 59.21, and she also earned a second-place finish in the 200-meter with a time of 26.08. The mile-run belonged to Jordan Skelly, who posted a time of 5:06.96 on her way to her second win of the year.

Reagan Johnson was the sole field winner for the Warriors. She totaled a distance of 1.58 meters in the high jump in her first career victory.

The Warriors also took three of the top four spots in the triple jump. Andrea Bartz led the way by totaling a distance of 10.97 meters.

Annie Weinrich totaled third best with a distance of 10.92 meters, and Haley Reinke’s distance of 10.51 meters earned her fourth place.

Winona State also had two athletes place third in their respective events.

Katie Bagley posted a time of 59.88 seconds in the 400-meter. Hailey Deschaine recorded a time of 8.02 in the 60-meter and totaled a distance of 5.00 meters in the long jump.

The Warriors totaled 113.20 points, despite having the least amount of competitors.

They finished 39.7 points behind the first place University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point and 11.8 points behind runner-up University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.

Kelsey Bethke and Hannah Mueller were included on the list of Warriors who did not travel to Steven Point. Warrior head coach Mason Rebarchek said Bethke and Mueller aren’t necessarily hurt but need rest for upcoming events.

Rebarchek said the team is still battling some nagging injuries, and the goal is to be as healthy as possible for the conference meet.

“This was just one of those weekends where we wanted to back off a little bit,” he said. The coaching staff also gave the throwers a scheduled weekend off.

The Pointer Invite was the sixth meet the Warriors have competed in this season. They now have three meets before the indoor track postseason begins with the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Indoor Championship in Bemidji, Minn.

“Now it gets fun because we have passed the training part of the season, and now we are to the part where kids start popping bigger numbers,” Rebarchek said.

Rebarchek and his staff will also spend the month of February recruiting. He said he expects “a large amount of written and verbal commitments. The recruiting really picks up as we get into the end of the month.”

Rebarchek has also been impressed with the progress of his freshmen from this season as well. “They are weathering the storm of the long season, they are starting to show that they are getting it, and the things we tell them are starting to stick,” he said.

The Warriors will begin a stretch of back-to-back conference meets in Mankato, Minn. They will begin with the Minnesota State Invite on Feb. 15 and end with the NSIC Multi-Event Championship on Feb. 17.

The Warriors will then head to La Crosse, Wis. on Feb. 21 before the NSIC Indoor Championships on Feb. 28.
