Softball recap: Warriors 38-10 overall

The Winona State University softball team split a doubleheader against Minnesota State Tuesday, April 14 in Mankato, Minn. The Warriors fell by a score of 5-7 in the first game and came back for the win in the nightcap 10-2.

On Thursday Winona State swept Upper Iowa University at home by scores of 8-2 and 13-5. The Warriors scored their total of 21 runs on 28 hits.

Saturday’s away games against Northern State University saw another doubleheader split for Winona State. The Warriors won their first game 9-3 after scoring nine runs on seven hits in the sixth inning. The Wolves fought back in the second game as the Warriors fell 0-1 in a match that was pushed into extra innings.

The weather did not cooperate on Monday as the doubleheader against Minnesota State University Moorhead saw a Winona State victory and a cancellation. The Warriors managed an 8-3 win over the Dragons in cold and windy weather conditions before the cancellation of the second game.

The No. 19 Winona State (38-10 overall, 20-3 in NSIC play) will continue play against Augustana College in a doubleheader Wednesday, April 22 in Sioux Falls, S.D. before returning home to face two doubleheaders over the weekend. At 1 and 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday the Warriors will take on Southwest Minnesota State and Sioux Falls respectively.
