The Winona State University women’s basketball team had a dominating performance against Augustana University. They won the match by 82-49 points. It was a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) match.
The match took place on Feb. 7, 2026 in McCown Gymnasium. The attendance was huge at this matchup, with 1304 people attending.
The Warriors started their dominance from the beginning of the first quarter. They took an early 7-0 lead. Megan Schuman scored a double 2-pointer, which helped them secure the score.
The Warriors showed multiple defensive strategies this quarter. There were 17 rebounds in total this quarter. Among those 17, 14 of them were secured by the Warriors.
The last 5 minutes of the quarter were one-sided. The Warriors scored 11 points in those 5 minutes, while Augustana scored zero points. The quarter ended with 20-8 points on the board with the Warriors in the lead.
The second quarter was a repeat of the first one. The Vikings tried to score multiple times but missed. On the other hand, the Warriors were scoring, doubling their lead.
In this quarter, the Warriors tried to score most of the points with three-point shots. They tried 9 times and were successful 4 times. The quarter ended with 39-17 points. This gave the Warriors 22 points lead.
In the third quarter, the Vikings started with a 3-point shot. This strategy was soon countered by the Warriors who were scoring almost double what Augustana was scoring.
In this quarter, the Vikings got their first double-digit points by scoring 16 points. On the other hand, the Warriors scored 23 points. After the quarter, the point table was 62-33, with the Warriors in the lead.
In the last quarter, the Warriors subbed out most of their starting five. Still, the result was not very different. The Warriors scored 20 points, and Augustana University scored 16 points.
If we look at individual achievements, Sadie Jarmolowicz had one of the best matches of the season. She scored 17 points with five 3-pointer shots. She also had 11 rebounds in this match.
“Everyone on the team did a really good job rebounding today, and it was just a team effort on the boards. Some of them bounced my way,” said Jarmolowicz.
Hailey Markworth connected with seven assists and scored 12 points.
“The season has been great. I think since we have a lot of amazing players on our team who could shoot and drive,” said Markworth.
After this match, Winona State stands in fifth place in the NSIC standings. They have 2 games next week. The first match will be against Southwest Minnesota State University, which is right after them in the south division. The match will take place on Thursday, Feb 12, 2026, at 5:30 p.m. On Saturday, Feb 14, 2026, at 3 p.m. they will face the University of Sioux Falls.
