The post-apocalyptic TV show “Fallout”, based on the popular videogame franchise of the same name, got one of the largest videogame adaptations, as well as doing an almost unthinkable idea which is being an entertaining show to watch with quality story and characters. “Fallout” Season 1 was a large hit and one of Amazon Prime’s most popular shows, but how did it continue into a second season?
“Fallout” Season 2 had a 72% drop in viewership with a low marketing and visualization from the team and a release around the time of the final season of “Stranger Things;” it did not look good for the release of the new season. Nonetheless, it continued to deliver and expand its story.
The story continues with our protagonists Lucy, the Ghoul and Maximus mostly in different locations. Maximus is back into the Brotherhood of Steel, the most important organization of last season and one of the largest orders of force around. The Ghoul still looks for his daughter and wife, while we get a much more in-depth look not only to his backstory, but how the bombs and the apocalypse came to be. Finally, Lucy is now plagued by the idea of his father being a bad guy and is looking for him to understand his reasoning and what to do with him.
Moving from the Wasteland to, in some parts, the iconic New Vegas was an incredible choice by the writers as it is a huge fanservice to the players of the franchise and allows for the introduction of Robert House, possibly one of the most interesting characters spawning across the 4 main videogames.
This season has an extremely strong ending, a good start and a normal middle. They use most of the middle episodes to set up for what comes at the end, and it has a lot slower and less exciting twists and events. One of the main issues the show suffers from is having so many characters on their own storyline all at once; the editing can become excessive and too much, making the cuts too short or too out of place.
On the other hand, the CGI, world building, and performances continue to be the highlight. The Ghoul, played by Walton Goggins, and Lucy’s father, played by the iconic Kyle MacLachlan, are both strong highlights of this season and deliver chilling performances. We also get amazing realizations about the Fallout lore, which were much needed from trying to understand how we got to this apocalyptic hellhole.
“Fallout” Season 2 is now available on Amazon Prime, and I highly recommend it to anyone reading.
