With the warm weather giving us a glimpse into spring, you cannot help but find yourself outside enjoying the beautiful scenery and weather. So today, I present to you the 5 top places to run or walk around Winona.
For starters, walking or running around the lakes is top place to spend time in Winona. With the small lake being a little less than two miles and the East Lake just nearing four. Popular for all members of not just the Winona State community, but the entire Winona community, you are bound to run into a few classmates or friends during this adventure outside. The small lake is also a perfect place to walk your dog; however, not the longest walk since dogs are banned on East Lake.
On the opposite side of the town, head down to Levee Park. Home of the Winona Farmers Market during the fall, spring and summer. Levee Park hosts many events besides the beautiful walking trail that it has. Along the walking trails that follow the Mississippi River, there are many benches to sit on which are perfect for bringing a cup of coffee and watching the sunrise along the water.
Up next, take a walk downtown. How often do you actually explore what we have downtown? Grab a matcha from one of the several coffee shops located on Second or Third Street and explore the many local shops, restaurants and the heart of Winona. Have you ever seen the bars in the daytime? Well, a walk downtown might just make that dream a reality.
For those wondering where to run in Winona, of course, you can run the lakes, levee, and downtown; nevertheless, if you’re looking for your next adventure take the Flyaway Trail and head to Wisconsin. Start by crossing the bridge over the Mississippi River, head through Latch, and finally take the 842-foot bridge over the Burlington-Northern Santa Fe Railroad, and you will find yourself on a path around Great River Rd. This may sound a bit overwhelming but trust me that this route is great for turning around halfway and heading back once you get tired. On top of that, most of this walking and running route is on a clear path without any cars to get in the way of your run. Have you ever wanted to text your parents saying that you ran to Wisconsin? Well, now is your chance without walking or running more than a few miles.
So, as you want to soak up the sun this week and the many warm ones in our future, try out one or all of these routes.
