After the historical win of Bad Bunny with a predominantly Spanish-speaking album “DeBÍ TiRAR MáS FOToS” on the Grammys, achieving the Album of the Year, the exposure and introduction to Latino albums have become more popular, and what better than to show some of the strong releases from many artists of this language?
Some honorable mentions are: “Vendrán Suaves Lluvias” with some of the most heartbreaking songs by Silvana Estrada, and the complete opposite “Grasa” by Nathy Peluso, a strong and energetic hip-hop and salsa release. Finally, AKRIILA’s debut “epistolares” strongly cemented her into the experimental scene.
“Data” by Tainy, 2023 – Known as one of the powerhouse producers in Reggaeton, Tainy releases his debut solo album with legends like Wisin & Yandel and Arcángel, as well as newcomers like Álvaro Díaz and Judeline. Tainy started amassing fame and praise when he was 15, making some of the best songs of the genre. Where now, he can lift any artist and raise the level of anything he works in, adapting into the style of each person but also bringing them to greatness. Each beat produced is masterfully crafted and it quickly had many songs become hits such as “COLMILLO” and “Fantasma | AVC”
“FEMME FATALE” by Mon Laferte, 2025 – The Chilean artist continues to impress audiences with her amazing voice and lyrics in a powerful 14 song course, going from desperation and agony, to sadness, to love and to acceptance. It is very easy to tell the level of maturity and experience in the extremes Mon takes her voice, and it delivers into some of her best work.
“Por Cesárea” by Dillom, 2024 – When Dillom first came into the scene with a non-serious trap, it could have never been thought of that he would become one of the most conceptual and interesting artists of the past years, continuing to be delivering such an experimental tape full of story and at times sickly lyrics. The obsession and isolation seen throughout the whole album converts into a beautiful “Ciudad de la Paz” ending track, and he becomes one of the artists to look forward to and who continuously delivers new ideas and changes his work.
“Aztlán” by Zoé, 2018 – After one of the most iconic MTV Unplugged, Zoé stood tall with some of the best delivery in rock of that time, showcasing beautiful lyrics and even better live sound. With “Aztlán” came a new presentation, using a lot more different techniques and almost futuristic style still combined with their usual sound. Songs “Hielo” and “Azul” quickly became the standouts of the albums, but the whole album doesn’t fall short and makes for some insane instrumental solos.
“De Todas las Flores” by Natalia Lafourcade, 2022 – Folk, Latin jazz and many more is what we can find in the tenth studio album by Lafourcade, where a sweet, calm and dreamy atmosphere is created throughout the tracks, with some of the most ethereal love songs and a much more simple production which is just right for the alluring voice of Lafourcade.
These are just a few of the huge amounts of music released from Latin America, and getting to delve into the surface of music from different parts of the world can open not only your perspective in music, but in culture and people around you.
