Comedian Drew Lynch visited Winona State University on April 12. Lynch was brought on behalf of the Warrior Entertainment Network. Much of the show was heavily based around interactions between Lynch and the audience which made for a unique and humorous show.

The mural’s purpose was to show the beginnings of Winona, however, the painter John Martin Socha, painted this mural with a “lens of mainstream ideology at the time” according to the piece commissioned in 2017 called “Somsen Hall Mural Context: The Founding of Winona and the Somsen Hall WPA Mural” by Iyekiyapiwin Darlene St. Clair form St. Cloud State University and Jill Ahlberg Yohe from Minneapolis Institute of Art.

Wenonah Players Hosts Thrift Pop-Up Event

Annual International Night: Crossroads of Culture
On Wednesday Nov. 2, International Student Services hosted an international coffee hour in Gildemeister Hall. This event is typically held on the first Wednesday of each month. The events offer a chance for students to interact with other students from around the world in an educationally-focused environment. Depending on what the students decide, the events can range from very casual to quite organized.

During Thursday night on Oct. 24., the amount of rain was so drastic, an email was sent out to students about relocating their cars in the gravel lot due to ankle high rain fall. Students stood outside of the Quad and Prentiss- Lucas hoping to get soaked from cars passing by. The next day, the volleyball courts in front of PL are proof of that. Students have called it the ‘PL Pool”.

Winona State Dance Team Heads to Nationals!

The Winona State dance team is a fully student led team who perform primarily on the sidelines and at halftime during Winona State football games. They also perform at the Warrior game day experiences, perform at half time for men and wom- en’s basketball game and compete all around the Midwest. All those interested in the team try out each year and for those who are welcomed to the team, they practice five to seven times a week. The captains who are elected for the team choreograph all of the routines for the current season.

Every year, the Winona State dance team attends the National Dance Alliance (NDA) camp in the fall.

“This consists of an NDA staff member flying to Winona to work with the team for two 8-hour days,” captain Kelsey Anderson said. In these two days, the team learns several small routines and one full routine that are evaluated at the end of the camp. The staff watch to see how well the team performs, how they improve and how they work together on the full team routine. If it is decided that their performance qualifies a bid, the team attends the NDA nationals in Daytona, FL. This year, Winona State successfully earned their bid and headed to nationals on April 10.

Kailey Doeseckle, Sports Editor

Kailey Doeseckle (she/her/hers) is the Sports Editor for the Winonan as of fall 2023. Doeseckle is currently in her third year at Winona State University, majoring in Criminal Justice: Corrections and Justice Services with a minor in Psychology.

In addition to working for the Winonan, Doeseckle is also a part of the Wenonah Players club. She participates in their theatre productions as both an actress and a crew member.

Outside of university, Doeseckle loves to spend time with her roommates binge-watching their favorite shows, dancing to music, and singing quite off-key to musicals.  She also enjoys watching movies, creative writing, and board games. Doeseckle also loves meaningless drives to blast all her favorite songs, and spending lots of time outside in fall weather.

Hayley Niewohner (She/her/hers) is a Sports Photographer for the Winonan and started in the fall of 2023. Niewohner is a first year at Winona State University majoring in Nursing. This is Niewohner's first year in anything for publication, but she has many years of experience taking pictures during sporting events in high school.
In addition to working for the Winonan, Niewohner is a Desk Assistant in Sheehan hall.
Outside of the Winonan, Niewohner loves spending time with friends outdoors, lifting in the gym, trying out local coffee shops, going to concerts, and watching sporting events. She also enjoys cooking, making chocolate, and doodling.
