Marissa Geyer led the Warriors to a seventh place finish as a team at their second spring meet of the year, the Tiburon Invitational March 30 and 31 in Omaha, Neb.
Geyer, only a freshman, led the way for Winona State by shooting 88 after round one and finished her tournament with an 85 during round two to bring her shot total to 173. She finished 13th overall as an individual, 11 shots back from the first place finisher.
Junior Kelly Blegen also finished her meet in the top 25. She shot 89 in both rounds to bring her total to 178 and place 22nd overall.
Katya Hoffman was the third best for the Warriors and finished just outside of the top 25 individually. After her first round, Hoffman shot an 87 and rounded out her tournament with a 94 after the second round for a total of 181. She was 26th overall.
Courtney Hagen and Katie Blegen each contributed to the team total with their round totals of 188 and 192, respectfully.
Hagen tied for seventh with Katie Brossard of Upper Iowa University and Katie Blegen finished 45th individually.
Out of nine teams, Winona State totaled 717, 354 after round one and 363 after round two. The team was seventh overall.
Iowa Western Community College took home the team title after two rounds of play with a total of 662 strokes.
Concordia-St. Paul was second (689), St. Cloud State University was third (692), Upper Iowa University was fourth (709), Sioux Falls was fifth (710), Nebraska-Kearney was sixth (712), Winona State was seventh (717), Missouri State was eighth (718) and Fort Hays State was ninth with a team total of 728.
Iowa Western’s Joana Yanez won the individual title with a total of 162.
St. Cloud State’s Jordan Carter and Katie Kruchten tied for second place, each with 165.
Earlier this spring, the women’s golf team opened up their spring season at the SMSU Spring Invitational on March 13 and 14 in Daytona Beach, Fla.
Hoffman was the top Warrior and placed sixth in the tournament after shooting two rounds of 87 and 80 for a total of 167. Geyer and Hagen each placed in the top 20.
The season’s final meet, the NSIC Championships, will take place on April 26-27 in Moorton, Minn. where the Warriors will compete for a shot at the conference title after completing two rounds of play.
At the championship midpoint, Winona State sits in seventh place after two rounds, which were played in the fall from Oct. 5-6.
The Warriors will return to action for their next meet—the Upper Iowa Invitational—on April 6 and 7 in Columbus, Neb.
