The Winona State University chapter of Ducks Unlimited is holding a fundraiser to help save wetlands.
The Ducks Unlimited Hunter’s Party will take place on Saturday, Feb. 21 at 5:30 p.m. at the American Legion Post #9. Proceeds from this event will go toward wetland conservation. The money will buy land, which will be restored to natural habitat for geese, ducks, songbirds and other wildlife.
President A.J. Treichel said this is the sixth year of the event. The club has been active at Winona State for the past five years and currently has about 15 members.
Treichel said the group participates in events as well as organizes them.
“We have outings. We went goose hunting near Rochester last fall,” Treichel said. “We also attend the Ducks Unlimited state convention.”
Club treasurer Elizabeth Peterson said the convention is one of their more popular events of the year.
“It’s a good time,” Peterson, said. “Usually about 150 people attend.”
Cost to attend is $25 for college students, which includes $10 in Duck Bucks, which can be used at the event for games and raffles.
At the event, adult ticket prices are also $25, and the cost is $15 for children’s tickets.
For $250, guests can also have sponsor status, which includes annual membership, meal and refreshments.
Tickets are available from Ducks Unlimited club members, which also includes a meal. There will be a raffle, auction, door prizes and games.
