The time is fast approaching for the annual Frozen River Film Festival, which will be held this year from Feb. 18-22. This year’s theme is sustainability.
On Saturday Feb. 21 the films will kick off at 10 a.m. The films will be shown in several different locations on Winona State’s campus, including several rooms in the Performing Arts Center, the Science Laboratory Center and Somsen Hall. Most often the rooms that are selected are used repeatedly in the different time sections, that way it’s easier to find.
Like several of the films, special events will be held all around Winona.
For those who are adrenaline junkies, the festival has an adrenaline film set every year. Each year it’s different but has one objective in common: to inspire and to give its audience an adrenaline rush.
This film set will be shown Wednesday, Feb. 18 at 8:30 p.m. in Saint Mary’s University’s Toner Cafeteria as well as in Lanesboro, Minnesota at the St. Mane Theatre on Feb. 13.
Many of the films are arranged in blocks, so all the films scheduled at the same time are finished at the same time. The films within these blocks don’t necessarily have the same plot line, however they all have the same goal to educate the audience.
The main area of the festival on campus is the atrium of the Science Laboratory Center. There, festival-goers will find vendor stands, live music, food and other activities.
Along with the films, author and Harvard graduate Winona LaDuke, will be speaking on the subject of ecological sustainability on Feb. 19 at 6:30 p.m.
Every year brings new films, new vendor stands and new experiences. This year’s sustainability theme aims to engage, educate and activate the community.
