Get to know the News Editor: Marcie Ratliff

My name is Marcie Ratliff, and I like to make up stories.

Sometimes, however, I consign myself to writing true stories, like those that populate the news section of any reputable newspaper, including the Winonan.

As news editor, my job is to make sure the news section contains everything you actually want to know, from investigations following a campus fire to Student Senate election results to juicy (and true) reasons for budget cuts.

I will hopefully be able to wrangle something exciting out of Winona at least once a week.

I am a junior—English Writing major and Spanish minor. I am from Saint Cloud, Minnesota. I really like to write, and my favorite genres are short fiction and poetry, mostly because I lack the moxie to attempt a novel. At any rate, I like to make stuff up. It is dreadfully exciting.

I love Jesus, and I like art and books and Fridays and lily pads and coffee and conversations. I jump in puddles just to get my feet wet. I like to run and eat ice cream, and I like to think that makes me a well- balanced individual. I like to write poems and bake cookies. I laugh too loudly at Disney movies, or so my friends tell me. I like mod-podge and the smell of old books.
