Get to know the Copy Editor: Kelly Jo Kusilek

Hi, I’m Kelly. I think I’m kind of an awkward person– you know, I get the giggles at Drive-Thrus, I ramble on a bit in conversation, and I always fidget.

I am a senior at WSU. As a Mass Communication major, with an emphasis in Photography and Digital Imaging, I love to take and edit photos. I would consider myself a creative, free-spirited individual. I danced for seventeen years, and I still find myself dancing in my kitchen all the time. I also sneak in grand jetés when I think no one is behind me during a daily jog. I have a passion for writing and grammar, which makes the copy editor position at the Winonan a great fit for me.

What else? Hmmm. I grew up on a horse ranch in Cannon Falls. It’s a very small, but beautiful, town in Southeastern Minnesota. I love the outdoors. I spend as much time as possible traveling, taking photos, drawing, jamming out to loud music, and meeting new people. I dig the golden rule.

I believe in going where the wind takes me; after graduation I have no idea where I’ll be, but I’m hoping to spend some time on either (or both!) of the Coasts, working in the fashion industry.

My family is my world, and I also love dogs. My newest puppy is 8 weeks old and her name is Ava–she’s the cutest.

Lastly, I try to wake up every day with the mindset that it is a great opportunity to learn something new.
