Winona State University Press Release

Eric Schoh has been named director of athletics at Winona State University, effective June 11.

“Eric is the right person to lead the Winona State Athletic Department,” Gores said. “He has a track record of success, leadership and character that will be an asset to Winona State University. We are thrilled to welcome him into our community of learners.”

A native of La Crescent, Minn., Schoh brings nearly two decades of athletics experience to Winona State, along with a desire to continue the Warriors’ reputation as one of the premiere intercollegiate athletic programs in the nation.

“It is with great excitement that I accept the position of Athletic Director at Winona State University,” Schoh said. “I am thankful to the search committee, Interim President Gores, and President-Elect Scott Olson for their confidence in me to provide leadership to Warrior Athletics. Further, I want to extend my thanks to Wayne State College and the Wayne community. The people and friendships there made it a difficult place to leave.

“This is not only a great career opportunity at a great institution, but an opportunity to come back to an area where I grew up and to be near my family. I look forward to working with the Winona State coaches, student-athletes, faculty, staff and the Winona community to continue and build on the rich tradition that is Warrior Athletics.”

Schoh has served as athletic director at Wayne State College since 2004. At Wayne State, Schoh helped build Wildcat Athletics into a consistent presence on both the regional and national level. Wayne State won 13 NSIC regular season championships and six more conference tournament titles. The WSC women’s basketball team advanced to the NCAA Division II Elite Eight in 2012 and ended the season ranked fourth in the nation. More than 20 teams have advanced to NCAA Tournament play under Schoh’s leadership.

Schoh currently serves as the Second Vice President for the Division II Athletic Directors Association and is the Central Region Chairperson of the Men’s Basketball National Committee. He is heavily involved with the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics, serving on the Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup Committee.

Schoh replaced Larry Holstad, who retired after 15 years as WSU athletics director.
