Winona State golf teams open their season

The Winona State University women’s golf team has played in three meets so far this season, topping the one meet in which the men’s team competed. The first invite of the season was the Central Regional Fall Preview, which was held in Olathe, Kans. on Monday, Sept. 5.

The event lasted two days, with the team round score coming in at 328. Junior Jessica Blanchard was the leader for the Warriors, placing 26th with a score of 156. She shot a 78 the first day, shooting four birdies throughout the event.

Blanchard also did not disappoint at the second invite, the Tracy Lane Memorial held on Monday, Sept. 11 through Tuesday, Sept. 12. The meet was held in Bemidji, Minn., and the team tied up Minot State University for second place, with a score of 648. Blanchard finished the first day of the meet shooting 76, and shot 77 on Tuesday. The invite was won by Minnesota State University Mankato.

The most recent meet was held in Winona. The girls competed on Saturday, Sept. 16 through Sunday, Sept. 17 at the Warrior Invite. The team’s combined score was 660, placing them just behind Minnesota State University Mankato, who won the meet. Junior Sidney Brunholzl led for the Warriors, carding 13 total pars on Saturday.

She placed fifth overall in the meet, followed by Blanchard who placed seventh.

The Warrior women will next compete at the Southwest Minnesota State University Mustang

Invite held in Marshall, Minn.

The men’s team has competed only at the Bemidji State Invite on Monday, Sept. 11, and concluding the next day. The team ended the meet with a straight combined total of 300, following Bemidji State University who shot a combined total of 288.

The team will host the JR Watkins meet in

Lake City, Minn. on Sept. 25 and 26.
