After losing their last two conference games, Winona State University women’s soccer team pulled out a win on Friday, Sept. 27, against the University of Minnesota Crookston.

The team was unable to keep the momentum going though, also playing Bemidji State University on Sunday, Sept. 29 and losing 0-1.

The final score of the Crookston game was 3-1.

First-year midfielder Jaida Wiege scored the first goal of the game within 17 minutes. With fellow first-year Bailey Deininger and junior Ashley Hewitt scoring the other two goals in the second half.

In this game, the team was the top shooter with a total of 12 shots on goal. Their highest shot on goal conference game so far.

Winona State first played Bemidji State on Sept. 5, when they lost 1-2. This game was not part of the conference.

The game on Sunday, Sept. 29, was no different, as they lost again by one point.

Just like the first game, the teams were evenly matched when looking at the stats on the game.

However, Bemidji State was not able to score their only goal until the second half of the game.

With only two wins under their belt, Winona State will look to bounce back in this weekend’s games against Northern State University and Minnesota State University Moorhead.

The Warriors also have a few positives heading into the weekend, such as the fact they will be returning home after a week away and, they will have good history against Moorhead, winning their last eight matchups.

The action will kick off Friday, Oct. 4 at 5 p.m., and the Warriors will close out the weekend on Sunday, Oct. 6 at 1 p.m.
