Winona State University’s Student Senate met on Thursday to discuss several issues regarding the Winona State community, as well as make an announcement about commencement.
Bethany Stavran, a communication studies student, was named the 2015 Fall Commencement speaker by the Academic Affairs Committee.
Stavran said she has wanted to be the commencement speaker since her first semester at Winona State.
“I had kind of a winding journey getting to Winona to start,” Stavran said. “Once I was here I completely fell in love with the place.”
Also discussed was a committee recommendation for a Winona State Mobile Application. Because the university is a technology driven campus, an official mobile application could potentially benefit many people within Winona State’s community. There has been positive feedback from the student body as well as student organization leaders.
The motion was tabled until the next meeting.
There was also a recommendation to reboot the Advising Task Force 2013 to 2014—an initiative comprised of students and inter-faculty association members to increase advisor training—by the spring of 2016.
