Mouacheupao spoke on her experieces growing up in Saint Paul, which is home to the highest population of Hmong people in the United States. As the child of refugees, she lived in an in-between state of Hmong culture and American culture.

Annual International Night: Crossroads of Culture
On Wednesday Nov. 2, International Student Services hosted an international coffee hour in Gildemeister Hall. This event is typically held on the first Wednesday of each month. The events offer a chance for students to interact with other students from around the world in an educationally-focused environment. Depending on what the students decide, the events can range from very casual to quite organized.

Lillianna Van De Walker (she/her) is a features reporter for The Winonan and started in Fall 2022. Van De Walker is currently a first-year student at Winona State University majoring in Mass Communications with an emphasis on Journalism and minoring in Psychology.

In addition to working for The Winonan, Van De Walker also plans to be a part of some clubs around campus. After graduation, Van De Walker hopes to travel to different countries to experience different cultures and journal about those experiences.

Outside of college, Van De Walker loves spending time with her friends and loved ones. She enjoys playing sports with friends, reading, and learning about cultures. She also appreciates art, music, and journalism.

On Saturday, Feb. 11 in the Science Laboratory Center at Winona State University, Jennifer Weir and her wife Megan Chao Smith performed a drumming piece for the Frozen River Film Festival. The event was held prior to their film, Finding Her Beat” was screened for audience members. The drummers explained that Taiko drumming plays a huge role in Japanese culture and tradition.
